What is ERP for Manufacturing

ERP is used in manufacturing for several different reasons. ERP databases are capable of capturing a wide range of manufacturing metrics, including production, inventory and order management and supply chain optimization. These metrics can be used to provide a high-level view of the manufacturing process, allowing you to manage costs, improve efficiencies and develop detailed market planning. The main reason that ERP software is used in manufacturing is because it allows you to:

• Create records that help you track business transactions more effectively

• Monitor and control production activities more accurately than manual processes

• Manage and optimize your supply chain more effectively than manually

• Automate processes quickly and efficiently by integrating data from multiple sources

Use of ERP in the industry

As we’ve grown, we’ve realized that this isn’t just a production line issue. We have to think about it from the end-user perspective as well. In manufacturing, there are five key areas that could be impacted by ERP Software:

• Risk of failure and more accurate output in process control

• Predictive maintenance-calibrating and optimizing quality of workpiece

• Production data modeling and inventory management

• Product design optimization and validation

• Business processes optimization and planning

• Workforce optimization and training.

The above are only some of the many benefits that can be obtained through utilizing ERP Software in manufacturing industry. It can help you improve your production cycle efficiency; it also helps you save on resources by reducing costs related to inventory management, participation in projects, etc

Types of ERP

  • Types of ERP for Manufacturing such as on premise, cloud and hybrid

ERP is a very broad topic, and it’s easy to get lost in it. In this post I’ll try to sketch out some common approaches, but if you’re just starting out, have a look at the first section of my post on ERP (The Big Picture: What is ERP?).

An on-premise ERP is one where you build everything yourself. Depending on your business model and the features that you need to offer, this might be correct or not.

    A hybrid ERP system

A cloud-based and hybrid ERP system

Hybrid ERP can be a solution for small companies that want to use cloud infrastructure for their main purpose (e.g. Amazon Web Services) or for larger companies that are more concerned with keeping their data in an internal datacenter (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics). The main goal of these systems is to let the company create its own servers within its own datacenter, rather than buying them from another company which would give them more control over their data than they have over their own servers. A popular example of a hybrid ERP system is SAP HANA (but you can use any other open source/customer-supplied platform). It does everything except designing the boxes themselves and even provides some custom software so that its customers can do things like create custom storage layers or manage multiple databases at once (in case they need to run multiple applications on a single server)

A cloud-based and hybrid ERP system

This type of ERP has two distinct parts: The software part and the hardware part. It consists of different components — all under one roof — but they work independently from each other so that different pieces have different needs (e.g., virtualization will depend on whether you want to run on a machine inside your datacenter or outside, etc.). This allows for IT departments to move parts of the system inside their datacenters if necessary based on what’s most efficient for them and it also makes certain parts very cheap relative to others (e.g., hardware cost per GB will be lower than software cost per GB)
